Mudanca (Pronounced: Mu-dan-sa) is a Portuguese word that encapsulates movement and change.

Humans have five basic movements that we do every day -- walk, sit, stand, lay down and pick something up. How can we bring movement into the dormant parts of our body and begin to bring connection between our mind, heart and body? No dance experience necessary for this class. All you need is some space to move in and some comfortable clothes. Blending together work in expressive dance and authentic movement you will be guided through some light stretching, bringing mobility to different regions of your body and then taken on an exploration of movement guided by your senses.

By registering you also get the following extras:

1) Access to the Mudansa Facebook Group to connect with others who use movement as medicine.

2) Access to Friday Night Expressive Dance Jam

3) Sign-up to e-newsletters with updates on upcoming community projects, performances, classes and workshops.

Combining my research into the art of assembly,  community-engaged art-making, using the arts for social change and community placemaking, I bring to you this 4-part course that will, not only provide you with examples of community-focused artwork and the power that art has in transforming community but also, each week, you will be given an assignment that will require you to:

Workshop: Falling into Fall // Ground & Gravity

DATE TBC

A special 3 hour workshop
** ZOOM **

COST: $75

Our bodies are cosntnatly pushing against gravity. In times of instability we lose balance and fall. How we fall impacts how we get back up. And, knowing what the ground looks like, helps us grow after impact. This is does not just occur in our physical realm, but also in our real-life experience. Knowing how to be resilient before we have to face the impact, helps us rebound before we stumble. Come explore falling and making friends with the ground and gravity as we enter into the cold months and the winter prepares us for the coming year.

Elements we will explore: finding ground, rebounding gravity, descending, ascending, falling, growing, sustaing, releasing, resilience, collapsing, fragility & antifragility.

*access to a laptop/ phone with installed ZOOM software.

Participants will knowledge share and be introduced to devising techniques situated in body, site and public participation exploring resourcing, scoring and relationship aesthetics. Works-in-progress may be shared with an invited audience on the last day. Presentations will be recorded.
