In this work, I am interested in the tension between individual autonomy and the synchronized mass. The series began as a cross-Canadian performance and video experiment, where I gathered artists across disparate time zones to move collectively for one hour. Operating without a planned score, we engaged in a radical exercise of simultaneous leadership and followership. The resulting four-monitor video installation serves as a fragmented record of this decentralized choreography, capturing a moment where geographic distance was collapsed through shared movement.
This investigation transitioned into a physical, live performance context through a residency at Mile Zero Dance. Moving from the digital to live, I worked with four performers to explore moments of unexpected togetherness; encouraging a heightened awareness of how we move—and are moved by—the people and the environment around us.
Whether through a media installation or a live street intervention, the series is a rehearsal of relational presence, asking: How do we maintain our individuality while surrendering to the rhythm of the collective?
