Frequent Return to Nothing

In Frequent Return to Nothing, Scott Mendonca and I investigate the mathematical heartbeat of the universe. The sine wave is found in everything: it is the frequency of a radio wave, the pulse of a business cycle, the tracking of a GPS, and the heave of the ocean. In this devised performance, we treat this function not just as a scientific concept, but as a structural driver for movement and light.

We utilize technology, sound, and light as extensions of our own bodies to explore the world of "frequency." The production is built from fragments that mirror the rise and fall of a sinusoid, creating a repetitive yet evolving landscape of oscillation.

Our inquiry is a search for equilibrium. In a world defined by constant, frequent movement, we use the stage to find the point of stillness within the wave—the precarious balance between the peaks and valleys of human and digital existence.
