WHAT THEY DIDN'T TEACH US:

THE SEX EDUCATION PROJECT

Facilitated by: Kevin Jesuino & Megan Fox

Participants: High School LBTQ2S+ youth & allies

Presented at: Western Canada High School, 2019

What They Didn’t Teach Us: The Sex Education Theatre Project worked in collaboration with LGBTQ2S+ youth to examine the current Alberta sex education curriculum and explored what queer youth need in a hypothetical future sex education class, including a history of the word “Queer”, gender, sexuality, gender expression, biological gender, two-spirit, consent, the story of Everett Klippert and the history of oppression and successes in Alberta queer history.  Teens bravely and maturely taught the adult audience LGBTQ2S+ sex education and history in an attempt to normalize the issues and to highlight the education needed for LGBTQ2S+ youth.  During the time of this production, the political landscape of Alberta was one where the government was attempting to make it mandatory for teachers to disclose to parents if their child had joined a Gay-Straight Alliance.
