*No performance experience neccessary but is considered an asset.

In late January/ early February 2021, I will be throwing myself into a workshop of a new audience participatory performance that I hope will develop into a full show premiere by late 2021.  I am looking to hold a series of engagements and experiments with LGBTQ individuals, BIPOC and individuals who are impacted by climate change while investigating queer performativity, queer ecology, theatrical failure and anti/fragile systems.

Check out my website for previous projects like "The End" (2020), "What They Didn't Teach Us: The Sex Education Theatre Project" (2019), "Procession for End Times I & II" (2019,2020), #safeAB (2015) and "Hold Up A Tree" (2014) for examples of my performance and participatory work around social and environmental issues: www.kevinjesuino.com

THE EXPERIMENT
The Earth rotates at around 30km/s. Because of this, the number 30 is prevalent throughout the score. I have created 30 scores/'seeds' that I would like to give to Edmonton-based  LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC and/or anyone impacted by climate change and have them film (in one single take) their interpretation of the score. Besides timing and a request to be outdoors, your interpretation of that score is up to you.  These live scores and pre-recorded scores will play simultaneously together. The experiment lies in allowing for differences to sit amongst the many. What is witnessed comes and goes much like nature doesn't allow one thing to dominate for too long before something else replaces it.

PARTICIPATION
Participants will be divided up into two types of scores
+PRE-RECORDED scores filmed on your smartphone in one single take. This means no editing or re-doing; just one single take of video. Press record and do your variation of the 30 minute score; including all the 'mistakes' and then send that video via wetransfer.com to me by January 31, 2020.
+LIVE interpretations of scores that will overlay with the pre-recorded and other live participation. This will occur at the actual experiment on both Feb 12 & 13, 2021.

WHAT IS A SCORE?
A physical or spoken score is, for the purposes of this experiment, what I call a 'seed'. Think of this 'seed' as a series of prompts (much like a the sheet music for an orchestra). Your interpretation and difference make the difference! There is no right or wrong. The only necessary expectation is to stick to the timing provided in the score and film it in an outdoor green space.

WHAT WILL I BE ASKED TO DO?
As this performance is exploring the relationship between bodies and the Earth please be prepared to be outdoors for the recording. For the most part, scores are asking folks to be with the land or complete a simple physical task. Some scores will require speaking. Some scores are live. Some scores are pre-recorded. You will receive your score at the community dinner & discussion (Jan 23, 2021, 7pm) via zoom).

Participants will be asked to:
+ be outdoors for all or part of the experiment (30 mins; if pre-recorded  you may schedule this at your own time sometime between Jan 24-30; if performing live, we would only need you Feb 12 OR 13)
+attend the community dinner & discussion via video chat (60 mins; Jan 23, 2021 at 7pm)
+attend the live performance experiment on Feb 12 OR 13 (45-60 mins)

Participants will be paid with:
+ a $50 honorarium for your participation.
+free ticket to the online performance.
+credit on any future presentation or promotion of this work.
