Procession for End Times

Melanie Kloetzel & Kevin Jesuino

On September 26, 2020, TRAction, in collaboration with kloetzelandco , presented: "Procession for End Times II : The Ice Shelf & The Coming Silence". In commemoration of the first annual Procession for End Times and marking time in reflection with what we have lost in the natural world, we host this year's Procession for End Times in honor of the Milne Ice Shelf, a fragment of the former Ellesmere Ice Shelf located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada, which crumbled into the sea this past year.

Eight humans carried a symbolic ice shelf along the north side of the BowRiver in CalgaryAlberta. Members of the community were invited to mourn and reflect through a 30-minute sombre walk along the Bow River which culminated at Princes Island Park. Upon arriving at the park, audiences were witness to "The Coming Silence", a dance theatre work by kloetzel&co presented with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. Offering an eerie taxidermic display for the viewing audience to wander among "The Coming Silence" comments on the larger notion of human extinction, whether through viral, climatic or ecological means. A big thank you to all the volunteers, performing artists and community attendees who came together to make this powerful ceremony.
